Template for thesis and presentation
Thesis presentations
During the thesis
-
Initial phase
In the first month after starting the thesis, each student should give a short presentation covering:
- a detailed explanation of the topic
- an overview of the current state of the art
- a roadmap with milestones, as a detailed version of the exposé
- possible difficulties
-
Interim report
At the midpoint of the thesis, a detailed report on the current status of the work should be submitted. This report must include a thorough comparison with the original roadmap, highlighting any deviations from the planned milestones. In addition, these deviations should be explained in detail, and appropriate adjustments to the roadmap should be proposed. This ensures that the remaining work remains aligned with the overall objectives of the project and that all necessary adjustments for the next steps are clearly defined.
-
Fifth monthly report
The final update is scheduled for the fifth month. In this update, a comprehensive summary of the overall progress and achieved results should be presented. This summary must:
- provide a clear overview of all completed milestones,
- address any challenges encountered,
- and evaluate the results in relation to the initial objectives.
It is essential that this final report fully documents the work completed so far and outlines the remaining steps necessary for the successful completion of the project.
-
Working hours
The institute will provide all students with a suitable workplace; however, any extended absence must be discussed with the supervisor.
-
Handover of samples, measurement data, etc.
After submission of the thesis, all samples, protocols, measurement data, etc. must be handed over to the supervisor in an orderly manner. An overview of the submitted materials must be attached. The thesis will only be assessed after the materials have been submitted and their receipt has been confirmed by the supervisor.
-
Assessment
The grade for the thesis is awarded on the basis of various factors and is generally determined jointly by the examiner and the supervisor after the presentation. The following aspects are taken into account:
- the written thesis
- the presentation
- the independent execution of the work
- any extended absences
as well as the frequency and quality of communication with the supervisor
